Frequently Asked Questions

Does telehealth work for mental health care?

Yes! While telehealth is not appropriate for everyone, the global experience of COVID provided a large amount of data that shows that online and in person mental health care do not have big differences in improved mental health or outcomes for clients. Telehealth also makes mental health care more accessible for people who live rurally, who struggle to find childcare, or who are looking for more flexible access to care. We recommend giving it a try!

How many sessions will I need to attend?

As many sessions as you feel as helpful to you or meet your needs. Therapy does not have to follow one specific path. You can attend once, you can attend weekly over an extended period of time, or you can attend for a few weeks, take a break, then attend as needed. There are so many variations, we support always what works for you best and allows you to receive the care that makes the most sense for your life and your needs.

What if I don't like the therapist?

That's no problem at all! Not everyone is a good fit, and as professionals, we want you to tell us if the therapist you have isn't working. We will work with you to try and find someone who does fit better, because your needs are most important here.

Will I have to talk about difficult or embarrassing things?

Not at all! Therapy is driven by you, for you. You only need to talk about what you feel is best for you. Some folks stick to topics that are safe and comfortable, and that has therapeutic value! Therapy can be hard, but it does not have to be. Our job as your therapist is to meet you where you are, and to be able to hear you when you set boundaries around what you want to talk about, and to adapt as your needs adapt.

How do I pay for sessions?

We are in-network with many insurance plans, and will also send you documents to help you use insurance if your insurance company is out of network for us. We also offer self pay options for all clients and pro bono services for asylum seekers and folks with lived refugee experiences. Please reach out directly for specific information about costs for you. More than 30% of our clients receive free therapy services.
